The Prosecutor’s Office of Bayanzurkh District has filed an indictment and brought to court a case involving repeated theft and fraud committed across districts of the capital, in which the defendant made such crimes his source of livelihood.

In detail, the case is as follows:

B.Ch., a 34-year-old man, alone and together with others, carried out 68 thefts between 2015 and 2022. He targeted unoccupied homes in ger districts across the capital’s districts, broke in by forcing windows and doors, and stole property, causing a total loss of 229.9 million tugriks.

In addition, between 2023 and 2025, he committed fraud on 12 occasions by posting fake online advertisements such as “goods for sale” and “goods wanted,” deceiving citizens into transferring money to him. This caused a total loss of 681.5 million tugriks.

Beyond the crimes above, B.Ch. also committed armed robbery, destruction and damage of others’ property, assault against a police officer while the officer was performing official duties, and intentionally caused minor bodily harm by assaulting another person.

The case against B.Ch., which the prosecutor submitted to court with an indictment, was heard by the First Instance Criminal Court of Bayanzurkh, Sukhbaatar, and Chingeltei districts on April 14, 2026. The court found B.Ch. guilty of a total of six types of crime, combined the sentences, and imposed an aggregate prison term of 12 years. It also ordered him to pay 911.5 million tugriks in compensation for the damages caused by the crimes to the named victims.

Warning:

  • Citizens are urged to exercise caution when responding to online advertisements offering items for sale or purchase, and to verify information carefully before buying goods.
  • The Prosecutor’s Office warns that residents of ger districts and summer cottage areas can reduce the risk of becoming victims of such crimes by installing alarms and security cameras at home and in their yards, and by maintaining close communication with neighbors.
