Mongolia’s Performance at the 2025 Asian Winter Games in Harbin

Anujin

The 9th Asian Winter Games are currently underway in Harbin, China, from February 7 to 14, 2025. This edition features 1,275 athletes from 34 countries competing in 64 events across 11 sports. Mongolia has sent its largest delegation to date, comprising 35 athletes and 28 coaches, participating in seven sports. 

Short Track Speed Skating

In the women’s short track events, Gereltuya Battulga made history by becoming the first Mongolian athlete to reach the semi-finals at the Asian Winter Games. She competed in both the 1,000-meter and 1,500-meter distances. 

Additionally, E. Mönkh-Erdene (500 meters) and G. Mönkh-Erdene (1,500 meters) set new national records in their respective events.

Alpine Skiing

Mongolia fielded eight athletes in alpine skiing. In the women’s slalom, Sondorbayar Altanzul finished 27th, Injin Munkhbayar 29th, Itgel Amartuvshin 31st, and Khaliun Khuderchuluun 33rd. 

Cross-Country Skiing

In the women’s 5 km cross-country skiing event, E. Ariuntungalag placed 13th, T. Ariunbold 18th, B. Nomin-Erdene 20th, and A. Enkhtuul 21st.

Speed Skating

In the men’s 500-meter speed skating race, T. Togeldur, coached by B. Bat-Orgil, secured 21st place with a time of 43.16 seconds.

Biathlon

In the women’s 7.5-kilometer sprint biathlon, four Mongolian athletes, under the guidance of coach Ts. Mönkh-Erdene, finished between 16th and 20th places.

In the men’s 10-kilometer sprint, E. Enkhsaikhan placed 12th, B. Ankhbold 15th, J. Gantulga 18th, and O. Gantulga 23rd.

Curling

Mongolia made its debut in curling at the Asian Winter Games. The mixed doubles team of Bayar Bulgankhuu and Enkhzaya Ganbat finished 12th, competing against teams from Kuwait, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, and Hong Kong. 

Historical Context

Historically, Mongolia has secured a total of seven medals in the Asian Winter Games: one silver and six bronze. Notable achievements include a bronze in the men’s cross-country ski relay at Sapporo 1990, a bronze in freestyle skiing at Changchun 2007, and a silver in bandy hockey at Astana-Almaty 2011. 

As the 2025 Games continue, Mongolia’s athletes strive to build upon this legacy, showcasing their dedication and passion across various winter sports.
