Mongolia’s government has announced a leadership change at the General Department of Taxation (GDT), appointing S. Tugsjargal as Acting Director following the dismissal of former head Ch. Chimidsuren.
The decision was made during an extraordinary cabinet meeting held after Parliament confirmed B. Enkhbayar as the new Minister of Justice and Home Affairs earlier today, based on the nomination presented by Prime Minister Gombojav Zandanshatar.
S. Tugsjargal previously served as the Director of the Large Taxpayers Department within the GDT and is expected to assume the acting role immediately.
Ch. Chimidsuren had led the agency during a period of growing scrutiny over Mongolia’s fiscal policy. On October 16, the GDT sent an official letter to the Ministry of Finance, warning that government resolution No. 55 (2025) — related to adjustments in the mineral resource royalty system (AMNAT) — could result in reduced tax revenues.
The cabinet did not provide additional details regarding the reason for Chimidsuren’s removal.
