Member of Parliament Kh.Battulga has expressed concerns about the potential concentration of wealth and the implementation of railway projects in Mongolia. During a recent meeting of the Democratic Party, Battulga criticized the current approach to wealth extraction, arguing that it is not effectively contributing to the proposed wealth fund.
He highlighted the importance of the 2010 railway policy, which, if implemented correctly, could facilitate the orderly and transparent extraction of the country’s natural resources. Battulga also pointed out the potential benefits of the Khoot-Bichigt-Erdenetsagaan railway project, emphasizing the need for careful planning and consideration of factors such as infrastructure and logistics.
The MP further criticized the proposed copper smelter in Erdenet, suggesting that the Altanshireet Industrial Park would be a more suitable location for such a facility. He also raised concerns about the availability of water resources for the project.
Battulga’s remarks have sparked debate among policymakers and industry experts. As Mongolia continues to develop its mining sector and infrastructure, careful planning and consideration of long-term economic and environmental impacts will be crucial.
