On January 13, 2026, Prime Minister G. Zandanshatar received Shen Minjuan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Mongolia. The Prime Minister expressed appreciation for the New Year’s greetings conveyed by Li Qiang, Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China. He emphasized that, as eternal neighbors, developing friendly relations and cooperation is a top priority of Mongolia’s foreign policy, and noted with satisfaction that the two sides are advancing mutually beneficial cooperation based on the fundamental principles of mutual respect for independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, each country’s chosen path of development, and core interests.

The Prime Minister recalled that during his meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Moscow in November 2025, the two sides agreed to align China’s 15th Five-Year Plan for social and economic development with Mongolia’s five-year development plan, with the aim of elevating long-term sustainable development, economic growth, and regional cooperation between the two countries to a new level.

He highlighted that intergovernmental projects and programs being implemented by the two governments are of great importance in delivering tangible benefits to the socio-economic development of both countries and their peoples. He reaffirmed Mongolia’s commitment to working closely with the Chinese side to achieve the goal set by the leaders of both countries to increase bilateral trade turnover to USD 20 billion by 2026. He also expressed Mongolia’s interest in continuing cooperation with China on implementing transit transportation to help Mongolian goods access third-country markets.

Ambassador Shen Minjuan expressed appreciation for Mongolia’s consistent adherence to the “One China” policy and its support for China’s positions regarding Taiwan, Hong Kong, Xinjiang, and Tibet. He also noted Mongolia’s pursuit of a foreign policy characterized by “friendly closeness, mutual benefit, and inclusiveness.”

He further stated that the China–Mongolia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has been developing steadily under the leadership of the two countries’ leaders, and that despite challenges in the global trade and economic environment, bilateral trade has remained stable—demonstrating broader opportunities for future economic cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Shen noted that China’s 15th Five-Year Plan for social and economic development, to be approved in 2026, aims to promote “high-quality development,” successfully implement construction projects under the Belt and Road Initiative, and advance sectors such as innovation and green energy. He emphasized that these priorities are closely aligned with the strategic development policies of the Government of Mongolia, and reaffirmed his commitment to continuing to contribute to mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Mongolia.

The two sides also exchanged views on issues of mutual interest related to regional and international affairs during the meeting.
