Mongolia’s government has dismissed T. Sukhbold, Chief of the General Police Department, and appointed Brigadier General Ts. Nyam-Ochir as Acting Commissioner, following an extraordinary cabinet meeting held on Saturday.
The reshuffle came shortly after Prime Minister Gombojav Zandanshatar presented Member of Parliament B. Enkhbayar as the new Minister of Justice and Home Affairs during a parliamentary session earlier in the day. Lawmakers approved the nomination after a round of questions and debate.
Once Enkhbayar’s appointment was confirmed, the cabinet convened an emergency session, during which it resolved to relieve Sukhbold of his duties and assign Nyam-Ochir, currently the First Deputy Commissioner of the General Police Department, to serve as acting head.
T. Sukhbold began his law enforcement career as an investigator at the Economic Crimes Division of Khentii Province Police Department and later served as Director of the Criminal Police Department before being appointed Police Chief in 2020.
No official explanation was provided regarding the reason for his dismissal.
