Mongolia Engages in Diplomatic and Environmental Efforts in Riyadh

Mongolian Prime Minister L. Oyun-Erdene recently participated in key diplomatic and environmental activities during his visit to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. His engagements included a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and Mongolia’s active presence at the 16th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP-16).

Bilateral Talks with France

During the One Water Summit, Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene met with French President Emmanuel Macron. The discussions centered on expanding cooperation in sustainable mining practices and improving water supply systems in Mongolia’s Gobi Desert. Both leaders expressed a commitment to prioritizing major projects to bolster Mongolian-French relations.

Mongolia at COP-16

Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene also attended COP-16, which this year marks the 30th anniversary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification. Mongolia presented its strategies and initiatives to combat desertification, land degradation, and climate change, using dedicated pavilions in both the conference’s Blue Zone and Green Zone.

In the Blue Zone, Mongolia highlighted its national measures and strategies to reduce desertification and shared insights on effective climate action. Meanwhile, the Green Zone Pavilion, organized under the theme “Go Sustainable: Nomadic Heritage, Resilient Rangeland,” showcased Mongolia’s cultural heritage and sustainable land management initiatives. The exhibit also spotlighted contributions from Mongolian government agencies, private businesses, and international organizations in promoting green innovation.

Focus on Sustainability

Mongolia’s participation reflects its growing efforts to address environmental challenges while fostering global partnerships. With its exhibits and diplomatic engagements, Mongolia aimed to raise awareness of its environmental challenges and solutions, aligning with the COP-16 theme, “Our Land, Our Future.”

The visit underscores Mongolia’s ongoing efforts to integrate sustainability into its development agenda while seeking broader international collaboration.
