At
the global leaders’ summit on climate change, Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh emphasized the urgency of addressing climate change, land degradation, and biodiversity loss. Speaking on November 12, he highlighted the growing impact of human activities and natural forces on global warming, which threatens sustainable development worldwide.
Khurelsukh praised Azerbaijan for hosting the summit and underlined the need for stronger political leadership and international collaboration. He urged countries to honor their commitments under the Paris Agreement and stressed that developing nations, including Mongolia, face significant financial barriers to achieving these targets.
He called for increased climate financing to help nations like Mongolia, where the cost to meet Paris commitments could amount to over half of the country’s GDP. Khurelsukh also launched a new initiative aimed at forming an international alliance to support sustainable pasture management, critical for Mongolia’s traditional herding economy. This initiative seeks global investments to improve the livelihoods of millions of people affected by climate change.
With Mongolia’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, Khurelsukh reaffirmed the country’s dedication to international efforts, stressing the importance of global solidarity in tackling climate challenges.
